DESY and the CSSB (Centre for Structural Systems Biology - Hamburg) have jointly organised a series of lectures on the topic of sustainable laboratories.
The first part of this series will introduce certification systems such as LEAF and My Green Lab. The second part will focus on experience reports.
The lectures will be offered online or in a hybrid format and are completely free of charge. No registration is required.
The first lecture will be given by Martin Farley (Associate Director of Environmental Sustainability, UKRI):
In this talk, we will be reviewing the relevance of sustainability within laboratories. While the talk will start by looking at life science laboratories, we will then look at the entire breadth of research activities. To support this, UKRI where Martin works is developing SPARK-Hub. The aim of the hub is to provide certification, emissions quantification, and training regarding a broad set of research activities. UKRI is developing this with the aim that it will be collaboratively supported by multiple European research funders.
In this session, we will review what resources exist, and which we're trying to align. We will also review the rationale and background of this effort, how it could work, and seek input from participants on this model.
